The Act required: a program to achieve coordination of federal nutrition.

  A product of the Interagency Board for Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research, the Directory is a key component of the monitoring program in the United States–a complex system of coordinated activities that provides data used for Federal policymaking on food safety, food fortification, food labeling, and dietary guidance, as well as for tracking progress toward nutrition and health objectives and setting nutrition research priorities.   To strengthen national nutrition monitoring by requiring the Secretary of Agriculture and the Secretary of Health and Human Services to prepare and implement a ten-year plan to assess the dietary and nutritional status of the United States population, to support research on, and development of, nutrition monitoring, to foster national nutrition education. Establishes the Interagency Board for Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research to assist in implementing the Program. Directs the Secretaries to prepare and implement a comprehensive plan for the Program, including components to maintain and coordinate the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Nationwide Food Consumption Survey. component areas of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Program (NNMRRP), which was strengthened with the passage of the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Act of (2).   (a) IN GENERAL- There is established a ten-year coordinated program, to be known as the National Nutrition Monitoring and Related Research Program, to carry out the purposes of this Act. (b) IMPLEMENTATION RESPONSIBILITY- The Secretaries shall be responsible for the implementation of the coordinated program. about the dietary, nutritional, and nutrition-related health status of Americans; the relationship between diet and health; and the factors that influence dietary and nutritional status.
